The History of Feng Shui
Feng Shui is a powerful tool to help us return to our natural state of spiritual beauty. It teaches us how to create harmony in our surroundings — and in doing so, harmony within ourselves.
According to Feng Shui, the spaces we inhabit regularly — our homes and workplaces—directly reflect our inner world. And the magic is: it works both ways. When we bring beauty, order, and intention to our environment, we naturally invite those same qualities into our lives. This is how Feng Shui empowers us to transform not just our homes, but our energy, our mindset, and our impact.
By cultivating peace and prosperity in our own lives, we radiate it outward — into our families, communities, and the world.
Where Feng Shui Began
Feng Shui originated over 3,000 years ago in China. It’s an ancient art and science centered around the placement and arrangement of physical space — homes, gardens, workplaces — to support the healthy flow of Chi (energy).
Feng Shui Masters dedicated their lives to observing how the environments we live in either nourish or deplete us. They discovered that everything — from the shape of a room to the placement of furniture — affects our energy and our experience of life.
Essential Feng Shui®: Ancient Wisdom, Modern Living
The approach I teach and practice is called Essential Feng Shui®
— a modern, Western-adapted school of Feng Shui that honors its Eastern roots while making the principles practical and accessible for today’s lifestyle.
This style is down-to-earth, empowering, and deeply transformational. It’s one of the most beautiful, simple, and affordable ways to create meaningful change in your life, starting with the space you’re in.
Understanding Chi' (Energy)
Chi' (pronounced “chee”) is the vital life force present in all things. It flows through our bodies, our homes, and our surroundings. When Chi' is blocked or depleted, we feel stuck, fatigued, or off-balance. When it flows freely, we feel clear, energized, and at peace.
Feng Shui helps us assess how energy is moving in a space — and how to adjust it to support flow, health, and harmony.
The Bagua Map
The Bagua is an ancient map used to align your space with nine key areas of life:
- Career
- Knowledge & Spirituality
- Family & Health
- Wealth & Prosperity
- Fame & Reputation
- Love & Marriage
- Children & Creativity
- Helpful People & Travel
- Center (Self)
Using the Bagua is a powerful way to set intentions and bring clarity to the areas that matter most. Your environment becomes a mirror — and a guide — to your highest potential.
Yin and Yang: The Art of Balance
In Feng Shui, we seek a balance between Yin (soft, curved, feminine) and Yang (sharp, bright, masculine) energies. When a space leans too far into one or the other, it becomes uncomfortable or overwhelming.
By thoughtfully blending both, we create environments that feel nurturing, alive, and “just right” — spaces that truly support the human spirit.
The Five Elements: The Building Blocks of Life
Everything in the world — including us — is made up of five core elements:
Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water.
Each element represents different qualities and energies. When these are balanced in your space, you feel more grounded, inspired, and in sync with life. Feng Shui helps you work with these elements to restore natural harmony.
